Congratulations to Brent Auernheimer at Fresno State!
By lholden - 1/14/2008

Brent Auernheimer at Fresno State was awarded the 2008 President's Award of Excellence by his campus.  A news article about this award follows.

Fresno State professor honored

A computer science professor at Fresno State received the 2008 President's Award of Excellence at a Thursday assembly of faculty and staff at the university.

Brent Auernheimer -- who also is director of the digital campus program at California State University, Fresno -- received a standing ovation. The award recognizes a faculty or staff member who demonstrates integrity, leadership and a commitment to the university and community as exemplified by Fresno State President John Welty, according to the university.

University Advisory Board members -- community members who consult with Welty -- select the winner and donate the $10,000 that goes with the award. The advisory board established the award in 2001 to honor Welty.

Auernheimer joined the Fresno State faculty in 1986 and has been director of the digital campus program since 2003. Digital campus provides online material to students that complements what they get in class. It also serves faculty by helping them create and teach online courses.

"It really feels more like a team award," Auernheimer said in an interview. "No one can wrap their heads around teaching with technology alone. It requires many heads. I think I owe lunch to a lot of people."

  • Iceland to Reno Classroom via the Tubes - I certainly have little interest in returning to school for more formal Edukashion, but if I did, I think I’d go back to 5th grade over grad school. Following up on a recent connection to Chrissy H’s class in Bangkok, yesterday I had another opportunity to view an active elementary school classroom through my Skype window. [...]
  • Visualizing Feed Word Clouds Over Time with FeedVis - In my everyday technology browsing I see a fair number of interesting tools, sites, ideas, that come my way via RSS, twitter, etc. A lot of them I give a quick look, say “Hmm”, tag ‘em, and move on. • Cruising My Old Street with New Google Street View - Wow, the new interface for Google Maps Streetview is very slick! It fills the entire map frame, and you get a spinny controller (like in Google Earth) to rotate your view, plus drag and clicking the mouses gives a tilt-pan effect. So you can zoom down streets! I decided to pay a visit to the [...]
